How this was made
The shared ethic on this site asks people to say how their work was made and to name their tools. Here is that account for the site itself.
Who did what
Michael Hummel conceived the site, set its direction, made every decision about what it says, and reviewed it. Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic, did the research, drafting, design and code under his direction. Research was done by several AI passes that fetched each source, and every figure was then checked a second time by a separate pass that had not written it.
That is a great deal of AI, so all of it is written down here.
The images and the moving pictures
Every photograph-like image on this site is AI-generated. None is a photograph of a real place. They were made with Higgsfield using Google's Nano Banana image model. Each image exists in a dawn and a dusk version, which is how one picture can be lit two ways.
Ten of the pictures also have a few seconds of gentle movement, made from the still images with xAI's Grok Video model. The images carry no label on the page itself. This section is where that is recorded.
The ring artwork in the handouts, the nine rings on the home page, and the drifting motes and stars are drawn with code, with no image generator.
Where these tools sit in the tiers
By the three tiers on this site, Claude and the image and video models used here are Tier C: trained on unlicensed or undisclosed data, or data challenged in unresolved lawsuits. The shared ethic asks that Tier C tools be kept mainly to private work, and named when the results are shared. This site is an exception that was made on purpose, because the subject seemed to need it, and this page is the naming.
Energy
Video is the heaviest use of generative AI. Each moving picture here was generated once, as a single clip of about six seconds, and then looped. The clips load only on larger screens, only when they scroll into view, and never for visitors who have asked for reduced motion or reduced data. The button at the bottom of every page pauses all movement. The pages are static files with no tracking scripts.
What is not AI
The typefaces are Fraunces, Newsreader and Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, all released under the SIL Open Font License. The page on everyday guidelines began as a sheet Michael wrote for his own use.
Conflicts worth knowing
Anthropic, which makes the assistant used here, appears in the evidence on this site: a court settlement over pirated books, a report of its model being misused for spying, and two of its own research papers. Those items are marked where they appear.
Corrections
Numbers age and mistakes happen. Every figure links to its source so you can check it yourself. If you find an error, or a figure that has gone out of date, please write to michael@humnyx.com with the page and the source. The date at the foot of each page says when it was last reviewed: October 11, 2026.
Privacy
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The only things it stores are your choice of light and whether you paused motion, kept in your own browser.
